Appledrutla From Green Grove

Introduction

This is a recipe I have known since I was little, it one of two version but this is bit more fiddler then the other one. I used to make this with during the apple harvest when my mum and her mum made apple sauce but the recipe is from paternal granny.

Ingredients

Serves: 4- 6

  • 1000 grams apple sauce
  • 500 grams sweet wheatbread

Method

You will need a 8 inch pie tin.

  • Slice the bread or rolls in ½ cm thick slices.
  • Heat the apple sauce until it the first bubble appear.
  • Lay a layer of bread in the pie tin then add a layer of hot apple sauce, repeat until you have no more bread, end with a layer of sauce.
  • Leave to set in the fridge for 1 hour.
  • Serve sliced with whipped cream or custard.
