Ingredients

Serves: 4

Metric Cups
  • 6 hilsa fish
  • 5 teaspoons mustard oil
  • 1 teaspoon dry fish masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 teaspoons mustard seeds
  • 2 jalapeno peppers
  • 1 pinch of salt (to taste)
  • 1 handful fresh coriander (to garnish - or parsley)

  • 2 teaspoons mustard seeds
  • 2 jalapeno peppers
  • 1 pinch of salt (to taste)
  • 1 handful cilantro (to garnish - or parsley)

Method

Fish - Bangali Style is a community recipe submitted by guptamona and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

For Musturd Paste:

  • Take musturd seeds, jalapano, 1/2 cup water and blend in blender till a smooth paste.
  • For Fish Masala:

  • Add equal quantities of dry roasted mustard seeds, fenugreek , cumin, Aniseeds , black cumin in grinder to make dry masala.
  • Rub fish pieces with salt and Turmeric powder. Keep aside for 20 mins.
  • In a pan add musturd oil. Shallow fry the fish pieces both sides till brown crisp on it. Take out in butter paper
  • Add oil in another Wok on medium heat Add musturd paste, stir and add Fish Masala. Stir and add little water , simmer, then add fish pieces and simmer for 10 mins.
  • When cooked serve it by garnishing with fresh coriander.
