Kerala-Style Prawn Curry

Ingredients

Serves: 2

  • 400 grams prawns
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 2 curry leaves
  • 1 pinch of salt (to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 6 teaspoons desiccated coconut
  • 250 millilitres onions (sliced)
  • 3 dried red chilli
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 250 millilitres tomato puree
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For Masala:-

  • Dry roast the chillies, desicated coconut, mustard seeds, onion and blend them to a fine paste.
  • For curry:-

  • Rub cleaned prawns with salt and vinegar. Keep aside for 30 mins.
  • In a pan over medium heat add oil, curry leaves, turmeric powder, chilli powder and masala. Stir fry until oil separates.
  • Add tomato puree and hot water. Boil and simmer.
  • Add drained prawns. Simmer uncovered till cooked.
  • Serve over rice.
  • Additional Information

    You can have cucumber, tomato and onion salad with roasted and salted walnuts dressed with lime and sea salt with this curry.
