Ingredients

Serves: 4-5

Metric Cups

For the Base

  • 250 grams plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • ⅓ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 250 millilitres sugar
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 100 grams butter (or 3 tblsp veg oil)
  • 1 packet chocolate buttons

For the Icing

  • 50 grams icing sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 packet chocolate (melted)
  • 1 packet white chocolate chips

For the Base

  • 9 ounces all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ⅓ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 8⅘ fluid ounces sugar
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 4 ounces butter (or 3 tblsp veg oil)
  • 1 packet chocolate buttons

For the Icing

  • 2 ounces confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 packet chocolate (melted)
  • 1 packet white chocolate chips

Method

Chocolate Gems Cake is a community recipe submitted by hpfvini and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

For the base

  • First mix the sugar, butter (or vegetable oil) and eggs to form a fluffy mixture
  • In a bowl mix in the flour, cocoa powder, cinnamon powder, bicarbonate of soda and bicarb.
  • Now fold in the dry ingredients into the wet ones and add honey. Beat the mixture well to avoid lumps.
  • Now add the chocolate buttons and mix it.
  • Line the baking tray and put the cake mixture in preheated oven at 200'C for about 10-15 mins.
  • For Icing :

  • Melt the chocolate and add in sugar and cocoa powder to it.
  • Cover the whole cake with this chocolate icing.
  • Decorate with white chocolate buttons or sugar coated colored chocolate gems.
