Introduction

I must send you my Granny's recipe, I love this, it gives me great memories growing up when I was about 5 staying at her house and making this together and it's lovely with cheese, salads etc... Hope you give it a try and enjoy

Ingredients

Serves: 1

  • 1⅜ kilograms green tomatoes
  • 1⅜ kilograms onions
  • 1⅘ kilograms apples
  • ½ kilogram golden raisins
  • ¼ kilogram candied stem ginger
  • ⅖ litre spiced vinegar
  • ⅔ kilogram turbinado sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

Green Tomato Chutney is a community recipe submitted by Moschops and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Cut the Tomatoes, Apples and Onions into small slices and add the golden raisins.
  • Put the candied stem ginger through a mincer.
  • Put the Vinegar, half a pound Sugar and Salt in a preserving pan and add all the ingredients mentioned.
  • Boil Gently for 4hrs and then add the rest of the Sugar, and boil for another 2hrs.. If the mixture looks too thick add a little more Vinegar...
  • Cool and then add to jars and store for a week for best results
  • Additional Information

    You will need a really big pan to cook all this in, but then you can use less amounts of ingredients its up to you, & I know this takes along time to make but trust me it's worth it
