Metric Cups

For the Torta Al Cioccolato

  • 200 grams butter (soft)
  • 250 grams caster sugar
  • 4 eggs (beaten)
  • 25 grams cocoa powder
  • 250 grams flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 100 millilitres red wine
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 150 grams chocolate (curls - you can make them yourself, I made 1/2 curls and the rest I just chopped in the processor)

For the Salsa Al Cioccolato

  • 120 millilitres coffee-flavoured milk
  • 150 grams chocolate (in bits)
  • 1½ teaspoons cocoa
  • 1½ teaspoons sugar syrup (I used maple)
  • 25 grams butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

For the Torta Al Cioccolato

  • 7 ounces butter (soft)
  • 9 ounces superfine sugar
  • 4 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 ounce unsweetened cocoa
  • 9 ounces flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 3½ fluid ounces red wine
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 ounces chocolate (curls - you can make them yourself, I made 1/2 curls and the rest I just chopped in the processor)

For the Salsa Al Cioccolato

  • 4⅕ fluid ounces coffee-flavoured milk
  • 5 ounces chocolate (in bits)
  • 1½ teaspoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 1½ teaspoons sugar syrup (I used maple)
  • 1 ounce butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Method

Torta Al Cioccolato E Vino Rosso and Salsa Al Cioccolato is a community recipe submitted by paola78 and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Warm oven to 180C, stand 4 and butter and line a 20cm springform.
  • Beat butter and sugar. Add beaten eggs one at a time. Sift cocoa, flour, baking powder and cinnamon if desired and fold in. Stir in the wine, then the vanilla and finally the curls.
  • Put mix in tray and bake for about an hour until sate stick comes out clean (mine was in there for an hour and 10 minutes).
  • Let cool and remove from tray.
  • Salsa - Stir all ingredients au bain marie until mix is smooth and soft. Sift if necessary to take out any chunks.
  • Let stand for a minute or two before icing. I iced my cake, added curls and a sprig of rosemary! YUMMO!
