Can I Cook The Spanish Chicken In An Air Fryer?

Asked by Hollis0000. Answered on 29th July 2026

Full question

I love baked-on-a-sheetpan recipes, such as the Spanish Chicken with Chorizo And Potatoes. I don’t have a working oven, and there’s only me (plus leftovers) to cook for. Can this meal be made in an air fryer?

Our answer

Nigella's Spanish Chicken With Chorizo And Potatoes (from KITCHEN) is a one-pan recipe where the potatoes absorb the spicy flavours of the chorizo and become crisp from the fat rendered from the chicken and chorizo.

You might be able to make a smaller quantity of the recipe in an air fryer, but in our opinion it is not ideal. Quite a lot of fat comes out of the chicken and chorizo and this will not baste the potatoes but will drip through the basket and into the bottom of the air fryer. You might be able to use a liner in the bottom of the basket, but we are concerned that as everything will be more crowded together than in the oven, the potatoes and chorizo could become soft but not crispy. However, if you did want to try maybe a single portion in the air fryer, we would suggest cooking at 190c/375F and start checking the chicken after 45 minutes to see if it is done, as a smaller quantity in an air frywr will cook much more quickly. Once the chicken is cooked through, you could always take it out of the air fryer and let the chorizo and potatoes have an extra 5 minutes or so at 200c/400F, to help crisp them up a little more. Please note that as we have not tried this in the air fryer ourselves, we are unable to guarantee the results.
