Chicken In A Pot In Convection Oven

Asked by NottingHill10. Answered on 21st June 2019

Full question

For the Chicken In A Pot with Lemon & Orzo would cooking times need to be adjusted if using the convection setting? Or would you recommend the upper grill + fan option instead? Thank you!

Our answer

Nigella's Chicken In A Pot With Lemon And Orzo is cooked in a cast-iron casserole dish (Dutch oven) in the oven, making it an easy-going one-pot dish that needs little attention. The recipe itself gives oven temperatures in centigrade for regular and fan ovens, plus farenheit temperatures for regular ovens.

A convection oven is an oven that has a fan system. The slight difference against a "fan" oven is that a fan oven will often blow heated air into the oven, whereas a convection oven may have regular heating elements (electric or gas) and the air heated by these elements is then circulated within the oven by the fan. However, the terms are sometimes used interchageably so it will depend on your exact oven model. If you have a "regular" setting on your oven then we recommend you use this and use the temperature and time guidelines in the recipe. If you use the "convection" setting then we prefer to reduce the regular oven temperature (by 50F) and use the directions in the recipe. Convection ovens can cook more quickly (by up to 25%) but as the ingredients are encased in the pot we are not sure that this would be totally correct for this dish. Finally, we would always recommend that you check the guidleines in the user handbook for your cooker, as all models vary.
