Full question

I want to make a more of these cookies but I also want to make them half the size. How long should I bake the smaller cookies for?

Our answer

Nigella's Mine-All-Mine Sweet And Salty Chocolate Cookies (from COOK, EAT, REPEAT) are generously-sized cookies that are deliciously gooey when warm and crumbly and shortbread-like when cold. The recipe makes enough for two cookies.

If you wanted to make smaller half-sized cookies then the baking time will be reduced, however it is unlikely to be half of the time. We suspect that the baking time will be around 8 minutes but we suggest that you keep a very close eye on the cookies after the first 5 minutes of baking (try to do this by looking through the glass panel in the oven door rather than opening the door). As Nigella mentions in the recipe, the top of the cookie will go from being smooth to being cracked and at this point the cookies should be ready. The cookies will still spread a bit as they bake, so make sure that you space them out enough on the baking sheet. We would also suggest using a light-coloured baking sheet as darker baking sheets can make the cookies colour more quickly, particularly on their bases, and can shorten the cooking time.
