Our answer

Nigella's Fig And Olive Chutney (from NIGELLISSIMA) is a quick-to-make condiment that is wonderful served with cheeses or cold cuts. The cooking time is very short as the chutney only uses dried fruits and olives, rather than the usual mixture of fresh fruits and dried fruits.

In theory it would be possible to use fresh figs for the chutney but as fresh figs contain a lot of extra liquid, the cooking time will be considerably longer to allow this liquid to evaporate. Also the weight of fresh figs needed would be considerably higher (approximately 1kg fresh figs would be needed), so we would prefer not to recommend using fresh figs for this recipe. If you have some fresh figs then we would suggest trying Nigella's Red-Leaf, Fig And Serrano Ham Salad or the aromatic Figs For A Thousand And One Nights.
