Where can I buy fresh curry leaves - loose but preferably as a plant? Can they be purchased online?
Fresh curry leaves are most likely to be found in Indian grocery stores, or in speciality food markets. We have only ever seen the leaves sold as bunches, never as a plant, as the leaves are usually harvested from small trees. If you find some very fresh leaves then you may be able to propagate your own plant and we have given a link below to the Kew Gardens website which gives instructions on how to do this.
It is also possible to buy fresh leaves on-line and we have a link below as a suggestion, though other sources are available. As you are likely to have too many leaves to use in once go we would suggest freezing the leftovers. Put the leaves on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment (parchment paper) and freeze them for 1-2 hours until the leaves are rigid. Carefully pack them into a resealable box and use the leaves direct from frozen. The leaves should keep well in the freezer for up to 2 months, beyond this they may dry out a little.
