How Far In Advance To Make Chilli Jam

Asked by lma3. Answered on 20th October 2016

Full question

Hi. I make the Chilli Jam for Christmas every year and it goes down a treat. In the spirit of being prepared, how far in advance can I make it before giving it as a gift? Thanks.

Our answer

Nigella's Chilli Jam (from NIGELLA CHRISTMAS) is a popular Christmas gift and if the jam is put into properly sterilised jars and stored in a cool, dry place then it should last, unopened, for up to a year. So it really depends on how quickly you think the lucky recipients are likely to use the jam after Christmas.

We would suggest making the jam one month ahead of the time that you wish to give it, as this should give enough time after Christmas for it to be eaten. You may like to add in the suggestion of a date by which the Chilli Jam should be used and also directions that once the jam has been opened it should be stored in the fridge and used within one month.
