Recipes Using Chillies

Asked by redstagmk1. Answered on 22nd January 2017

Full question

My Mum accidentally bought a capsicum plant thinking it was another kind of pepper, and gave it to me because I like hot foods. The recipes on your site mostly involve chocolate, but I haven't got much of a sweet tooth. How can I otherwise incorporate capsicum into my cooking? I don't have any dietary requirements and will basically try anything! Thanks!

Our answer

Capsicum is the family name for peppers and encapsulates everything from sweet or bell peppers to hot chillies, but we assume that this particular variety is a hot chilli. The Nigella.com website has a very wide-ranging selection of recipes covering both sweet and savoury options. The website has a very useful search engine that can be accessed from the home page and if you type "chilli" into the selection box then you will find over 100 recipe suggestions for this ingredient. You can also filter the recipe selection by recipe type, occasion and theme.

For fresh chillies we would particularly suggest trying Jumbo Chilli Sauce, a big-flavoured condiment that can be used with many dishes. Halloumi With Chilli, Chicken, Mango And Chilli Salad and Mozzarella With Crazy Gremolata will also benefit from ripe, fresh chillies and can be a welcome burst of spice in the middle of winter.
