Substitute For Blue Cheese In Radicchio Salad

Asked by craig74. Answered on 14th October 2018

Full question

Hi Nigella and Team. I love radicchio and really like the look of the Radicchio, Chestnut and Blue Cheese salad in At My Table. However, I really can't handle blue cheese. Are you able to recommend a substitute? Every other element I love. Thank you.

Our answer

Nigella's Radicchio, Chestnut And Blue Cheese Salad with A Citrus, Grain Mustard and Honey Dressing [from AT MY TABLE) contrasts the bitterness of the radicchio leaves with sweet, waxy chestnuts and a sharp, soft salty cheese. The citrus dressing adds some extra sharp-sweetness, but is also wonderful on other salads too.

Blue cheese is our preference but you could use a goats' cheese as an alternative as this has some saltiness and a slight tang. However you need to use a cheese that can be crumbled, from a log of firm goats' cheese (sometimes labelled as chèvre), rather than the creamy, spreadable type of goats' cheese.
