Nigella's Sweetcorn Chowder With Toasted Tortillas (from NIGELLA EXPRESS) is made with frozen corn kernels for convenience. You could use fresh corn kernels instead, though shucking the corn cobs and cutting off the kernels will be time consuming.

A medium cob of corn yields approximately 120g (slightly heaping 3/4 cup) of kernels. So you will need 8 to 9 corn cobs to harvest 1kg (6 cups) of kernels for the soup. As the kernels are finely chopped in a food processor before being cooked, the cooking time for the soup should not change.
