When I look at the Dark And Sumptuous Chocolate Cake recipe, the ingredients change when I click the button to switch from metric to cups. Will this affect the recipe with the different ingredients?
Our answer
Nigella's recipes on the Nigella.com website are available in both UK and US form. To change from UK to US you need to use the "metric to cups" button that appears on the top right hand side of the ingredients list. Click and slide the button from left to right to convert from metric to US.
As well as changing the measurements from metric to US cups, the system also changes some of the names of the ingredients. This is as the US uses different names for some of the same ingredients. For example, cocoa powder becomes unsweetened cocoa powder, plain flour becomes all-purpose flour and bicarbonate of soda becomes baking soda, but they are actually the same ingredient. Very occasionally the recipe switches a UK ingredient for a US substitute, if the UK ingredient is not available elsewhere. But the recipe will have been tested with the US substitiute.
