What Can I Use Instead Of A Bundt Tin For NIgella's Bundt Cakes?

Asked by HomelovinGirl. Answered on 13th February 2026

Full question

I don't have a bundt tin but I would like to try NIgella's bundt cakes. Can I use a round cake tin instead or perhaps a loaf tin? Will this affect baking timings?

Our answer

Nigella's Lemon and Thyme Bundt Cake, Pumpkin Bundt Cake and Cider And 5 Spice Bundt Cake (all from SIMPLY NIGELLA) are easy to make cakes that look impressive without much decoration. Bundt tins, as well as being decorative, have a central tube that helps the cakes to cook more quickly.

Most bundt tins have a 10-12 cup (2.4-2.8 litres) capacity, which means that loaf tins are too small for this type of cake. We tested all of these cakes in a 20cm (8-inch) square tin. The square tin makes quite a deep cake, but it is a good alternative and the baking time tends to be 10-15 minutes longer than for a bundt tin. For the exact timings, please check the "Additional Information" box at the bottom of each recipe. You may also be able to bake the cakes in a 23cm (9-inch) square tin, though we have not tried baking the cakes with this size of tin so are unable to guarantee the results.
