Books about teatime can be tricky: I'm not sure it entirely exists as an entity any more, so to devote a whole book to tea party recipes might seem a whimsical exercise. In some cases, that is so. Not here: this is a book you can use for desserts, starters (for there are savoury recipes too), breakfasts, treats and, yes, afternoon tea. Most important, Kerstin Rodgers (aka Ms Marmite) has an authentic, warm and trustworthy voice — and her recipes have me drooling!
I couldn't resist the prettiness of the Woodland Apple Pie and, what's more, she makes me feel that, even with my lack of craft skills, I could make it too.
