Tadka Dal

Simple dish to go with Roti or Rice


Serves: 2-3

  • 250 yellow lentils
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon red chile powder
  • salt (to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 teaspoons chopped green chile
  • 2 teaspoons chopped cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 125 tomato puree
  • 750 water
  • 2 teaspoons oil

  • Place dal(Lentil) in a pan with 3 cups water and salt and turmeric powder. On low heat boil it till tender. With spoon mash little in boiled water . keep aside.
  • In another pan ,add oil over low heat, put cumin seeds. When sizzles, add tomato puree. Saute well.
  • When oil gets separated , add garma masala and red chile powder. Mix for 2 mins.
  • Add this tadka to dal.
  • Put pan of dal on low heat and simmer for 5 mins. Add chopped corriander leaves and green chillies.
  • Serve with roti or rice
