Lets be honest, there are a million different recipes for Chilli - and I guess it comes down to personal taste as to how you make it. However, this is the recipe I use, and one that is always a success!

Ingredients

Serves: 5-6

Metric Cups
  • 1 kilogram minced beef
  • olive oil
  • 3 teaspoons chilli powder (to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of pepper
  • 2 cans chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 1 medium onion (roughly chopped)
  • 1 gram dark chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 1 beef stock
  • 1 handful button mushrooms
  • 1 green peas (cut into strips)
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 2⅕ pounds ground beef
  • olive oil
  • 3 teaspoons chili powder (to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of pepper
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 1 medium onion (roughly chopped)
  • ounce bittersweet chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 1 beef broth
  • 1 handful button mushrooms
  • 1 green peas (cut into strips)
  • 1 can kidney beans

Method

Chilli Con Carne is a community recipe submitted by Will_1991 and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Heat Oil in large saucepan. Stir in Minced Beef and Onions - keep stiring until mince begins to brown.
  • Add flour, and stir until spread evenly. Stir in Chopped Tomatoes and Tomato Puree. Season with Salt, pepper, chilli powder and paprika to taste. Leave to simmer at a low heat for 15 minutes - stirring regularly.
  • Mix in Capsicum and Button Mushrooms. Stir well. Stir in Stock Cube until fully dissolved, and the sauce begins to thicken.
  • Add the square of dark chocolate, and leave to simmer for 10 more minutes at a low heat.
  • Drain off the Kidney Beans, and stir in gently. Turn up heat, and stir for 2-3 minutes. Ready to serve.

  • Additional Information

    This can be served with Rice or Bread. My preference is both! Boil the rice until it is soft, and plate up with the chilli. Slice a thick hunk of white farmouse bread, and spread with butter.
