My mother’s idea of the perfect Christmas treat was a box of Fortnum’s Violet & Rose Creams, and so there has always seemed something seasonal and celebratory about the place to me. They must have thought the same thing there, as they have just brought out a beautifully festive book, Christmas & Other Winter Feasts by Tom Parker Bowles. Pappardelle with venison ragù, red cabbage and pecorino; Welsh rabbit toasties; roast goose with apple sauce; chocolate trifle; stem ginger pudding: this is a rich feast of a book. And although, my own Christmas ritual includes making my own Yule Log, I had to include the recipe for the Fortnum’s Black Forest version here. My table can easily and will happily accommodate both!
