Metric Cups
  • 250 grams dark brown muscovado sugar
  • 1 tin sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 pastry case (pre-made)
  • 9 ounces dark brown sugar
  • 1 tin sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 pastry case (pre-made)

Method

  • Mix the sugar and condensed milk together well.
  • Pour into the pastry case.
  • Place into a pre-heated oven at gas mark 3 (170c) for about 10 mins.
  • Once it's cooked leave to cool before putting it in the fridge until you are ready to eat.

    Once cooked the top should feel set but not solid. (It's almost like there is a thick skin over the top.)

    • Hey there! From my research, "evaporated milk" simply is simple "not sweetened condensed milk". FR readers, this would be "lait concentré nature" in opposition to "lait concentré sucré". Cheers!

    • yes you are correct it should be evap chilled and same amount of brown sugar, condensed milk is wrong

    • Definitely evaporated. I remember this for school dinners 40 years ago in Thanet, South East Kent. Last summer I saw individual ones being sold in Morrisons, Margate. Tip put evap milk in fridge for 30 mins beforehand and whisk well before adding sugar.

    • I may be wrong but I think this should be evaporated milk not condensed milk!! could someone let me know if this is right please.

    • You will need to whisk the condensed milk until it is very thick, then add the sugar and then whisk again...if you just 'mix' them together then it will not solidify after baking
