Chocolate Chestnut Pots In A Large Bowl

Asked by PriyaH. Answered on 17th January 2017

Full question

The Chestnut Chocolate Pots were a hit at Christmas and I would like to make the pots for a party. Can you make it in a large bowl instead of individually? I normally put them in the fridge overnight anyway. Thank you

Our answer

Nigella's Chestnut Chocolate Pots (from NIGELLA CHRISTMAS) are similar in texture to a creamy pudding or thick custard, but are much easier to make. The mixture of cream, chestnut puree and chocolate thickens and sets as it cools. It is possible to decant the warm chocolate mixture into one large bowl but it will take longer to set and we would certainly recommend overnight chilling. The mixture can be made up to 2 days ahead and stored in the fridge until needed, covered loosely with clingfilm (plastic wrap).

As the mixture is softly set rather than firm it may make serving, by spooning out of a large bowl, a little less neat than serving in small pots. However this is just an aesthetic point and it will not affect the flavour or texture of the dessert. You may also like to try Nigella's Instant Chocolate Mousse as this is also easy to make and could be set in one large bowl rather than individual pots or glasses.
